Saturday 16th March from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm

  • finding peace within yourself by sensually experiencing Taiko and  connecting with their sounds;
  • listening to each other in the group, accompanying and supporting each other;
  • on the basis of simple rhythms, we can promote the fun and joy of doing things together and establish a form of communication via the deep bass sounds and their easily perceptible vibrations;

Freeing and experiencing oneself with the help of others. The aim of this impulse workshop is to experience taiko in a different way and to open up new “spaces” for oneself (previous experience is not necessary).

Taiko-summercamp 2020 – CANCELLED due to the Virus!!!!

Like in the last years, we were organizing another Taiko-summercamp 2020 (8th – 12th July) in Molkenberg at the river Havel together with Tama Daiko (Oliver Reichelt) and Akaishi Daiko (Sakiko Volke-Nakahara); since we ran out of spaces left very quickly, we have posted no further informations here; in case of interest, please get registered on our waiting list!

8th March 2020: Sayuri Ito (Amaterasu Taiko) taught one of her compositions in Berlin!

This workshop suitable for intermediate players was quite funny although lasting only from 11 – 2 pm. Everyone enjoyed to learn the piece “energy”;-)

7th/8th/9th February 2020: Jonathan Kirby of
Kagemusha Taiko visited us in Berlin!!!

Jonathan is the founder and artistic director of Kagemusha Taiko. The group has performed around the world, including USA and Japan, and at the 1st and 2nd European Taiko Concert Nights in Dusseldorf.

Jonathan is the author of three books on teaching and learning taiko that have each sold over 200 copies worldwide: Teaching Taiko – Principles and Practice; Jonathan Kirby’s Taiko Drumming Book; Taiko for Schools.

These practical guides have been followed by “The Way of the Drum – Taiko without Borders” which presents a philosophy for playing taiko in Europe, based on Jonathan’s experience of more than 20 years as a taiko professional, including direction of the UK Taiko Festival since 2005, and the European Taiko Conference which he launched in 2016. For Jonathan, taiko is based on principles, it comes from the person, not from any particular place. It is accessible to everyone and enjoyable for all.

On friday 7th February Jonathan offered an improvisation-workshop to support finding everyones own voice in taiko; on saturday and sunday, Jonathan taught the Taikopiece “Yui” – a composition that has travelled the world, from Japan to USA to Europe, picking up some “local flavour” on the way. It’s fun to play and it’s fun to listen to and watch as well. This is partly because it has a very “rock and roll” feel to it. Not all taiko from Japan is the same!!

Mel Seouw with movement for taiko players in November 2019
We had an amazing time with Mel alongside with focussing on

* Breathing and movement
* Connection and communication
* Maaaaaaaa (the space in between)

Experience the magic of traditional Japanese taiko drumming in a Hachijo-Style-Workshop with Kota Arai, whose interest is especially to use taiko as a mean to express yourself, to find a mean to communicate through taiko – this workshop addresses as well advanced as beginners.
The workshops are divided in two parts: basic rhythms will be learned and should be “understand” as the moving sea; in a second step, melody rhythms are taught with the aim to improvise and to be able to tell your own story within this atmosphere given by the basic rhythms.

Workshop 1 (Basics und Melody) on Saturday, 15th June 2019 starting at 7 pm – followed by a taikopartynight;-)
Workshop 2 (Basics und Melody) on Sunday, 16th June 2019 from 2 pm to 6 pm.

And: we are happy to annouce that Shoji Kameda will come next year or at least in 2021 to Berlin;-) We are still taking advantage of your workshop on technique and timing; and we are still in train of learning the piece Omiyage, which is a really wonderful gift to the world of taiko! And: lucky those who could be part of this amazing event last autumn:

Jim Tan offered a weekend workshop in Berlin with Miyake-Jima practice. The workshop was about practicing typical movements in Yoko Uchi style combined with strength, power and condition.

We had an amazing weekend with the naname-Workshop in the Percussion Art Center PAC in Berlin-Kreuzberg in October 2017 with Joel Mankey (Taikofactory, Los Angeles) and Rannoch Purcell (Taikozentrum Deutschland,Ulm). This workshop series focussed on the NiDan style – a fun and challenging version of naname played on a pod two drums that you share with a partner! Starting with Ni-dan Skills, we learned the Raion repertoire little by little – a piece composed by Joel Mankey – see

Here for a nice insight in this amazing weekend workshop thanks to Razz and Joel:
